TRI COACH GEORGIA
Overview
The Tri Coach Georgia Augusta half iron training camp is an intensive on course training weekend. Tri Coach Georgia coaches, all of whom are familiar with the course, will be providing tips, insights, local knowledge and on course training advice to prepare you for the weekend camp as well as focus your race prep to specific nuances of racing this course. Peak Rehabilitation, Fitness and Performance Center and their Physical Therapists will also provide lectures on topics ranging from Lab testing for metabolic efficiency, VO2 max and Lactate Testing to injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Course Description
The camp will begin with on Friday afternoon, August 7 at 12 pm. This session will begin at the half iron T1/T2 area. This session could be a river swim, a ride, a run or possibly all three so be ready. Details will be finalized in the coming months.
We have changed things again for this year to enhance your weekend experience as well as to collaborate with two other events the same weekend. Our camp and these events take a lot volunteers to ensure your safety and enjoyment so us working together increases the quality of all our events.
Our camp is partnering with GatorFest Augusta and TriAugusta Triathlon Club Ride for a Reason. These partnerships will provide you as realistic race conditions as possible by having in water divers and on water kayakers for the swim and attended aid stations along the bike route.
Saturday morning the GatorFest Augusta will provide you a chance to swim the Savannah River at distances of 1.2 mile or 3.5 miles. The 1.2 mile swim option will be the half iron Augusta swim race route.
Saturday morning shortly following the swim the coaches and volunteers for Tri Coach Georgia will lead you on a run of the half iron Augusta run race route with your option being one or two laps of the run course. We will then gather to get valuable training, recovery and rehab information from our partners at Peak Rehabilitation, Fitness and Performance. Our coaches will also review with you the race strategies for the course as well as insider information about where to stay, park and spectate plus our favorite spots to dine and socialize with other athletes during the race weekend.
Sunday morning the TriAugusta Triathlon Club Ride for a Reason will provide you a fully supported ride of the half iron 70.3 Augusta bike race route.
The one camp fee gets you access to all these events.
Event Strategy
This is a race course preview so plan your weekend accordingly. Tri Coach Georgia recommends racing how you train, so even though there will be on course support these are open waters and roads with you performing at your own pace. Tri Coach Georgia coaches encourage attendees to provide their own on course nutrition for the bike and run segments in addition to our support. A water station will be available on the run course. The coaches recommend running with your hydration system and refilling it at the run station.
Miscellaneous Info
Expect the weekend training camp to be hot. 95+ temps and >90% humidity is the usual weather for mid August in Augusta so begin your acclimatization now. Get to Augusta hydrated and make every effort to stay topped off so you can enjoy the training.
Discounted room rates will be announced soon.
The details of the camp will be continually updated here. Also, follow Tri Coach Georgia on Facebook and Twitter @TriCoachGa to stay informed with updates that may have not made it to the event site.
